Wave Season Explained: Is it Time to Book a Cruise?

Sharing is caring!

Have you heard of Wave Season?  Is it a great time to book a cruise?  I’ve noticed a lot of people asking this question on social media.  So, I thought I would reach out to my long-time friend and fellow cruise travel agent, Jessalynn, for her thoughts on WAVE SEASON!

Hold on to your swimsuit cruisers – Wave Season is coming!

If you haven’t heard of Wave Season before, here’s a handy way to remember it: Wave Season is a wave of good deals on cruises of all types that happen roughly from mid-January to mid-March every year.

If you’re thinking of booking a cruise, now’s the time to do it!   Why now? Well, the travel industry is traditionally a little slow right after Christmas, and people tend to tighten their wallets. Deals during Wave Season are the cruise lines’ way of encouraging you to open up that wallet a bit and put down a deposit on your cruise now, knowing that you won’t have to pay it off until 3-4 months before your sail date.  Most cruise lines now offer flexible payment plans that can be set up anytime before your final payment date.

 Added Perks?

Wave Season offers a range of lower prices and may include perks such as drink packages, Wi-Fi, pre-paid gratuities, and more. These offers differ from cruise line to cruise line, so as a travel agent, it helps me when clients can tell me what’s important to them, and I can find them a deal that will get it for them.

These offers are time-sensitive, but booking and putting down a deposit will lock you in at a reduced rate and with the added extras. Depending on the length of the cruise and the type of cabin you have, these deposits usually range from $50-$500.

Last year, I noticed many Wave Season deals for Alaska, so if you’re considering booking Alaska for next year (or the next), this would be a great time! Most cruise lines have schedules available for booking through 2025 and some into 2026. Wave Season is also a good time to book a holiday cruise (Christmas/New Year’s), as those prices tend to rise as the ships fill up with reservations.

Ready to See What Wave Season Has to Offer You?

If you’re interested in taking advantage of Wave Season deals, I’d be glad to help you out!

As travel agents, we receive a commission from the cruise line; there’s no cost to you, and your cruise costs exactly the same as it would if you booked it directly. Our time, service, and industry experience add value to you.  And we’re the ones who have to sit on hold with the cruise line 😉
