Do You Have a Travel Bucket List?

Do you have a Travel Bucket List?

I think most people do. Oddly, the term has always bothered me a little.  Maybe it started as an immature fear that if I completed my travel bucket list, I would…well…kick the bucket.  Maybe it’s just me wanting to go against the grain and not use this common expression.

I can’t really pinpoint the reason.  But, as much as I love to travel, I never refer to my list of future travels as a “Bucket List”.

I admit that I have become rather inconsistent with my terminology but most of the time I refer to it just as “My List”.  The task-master in me feels like if it’s on “My List” it will happen.

Oh, how I love a check mark!

Your Travel Bucket list can be your JUST GO List!

I am certainly not an adventure junkie.  You will not find bungee jumping or skydiving on any list of mine.  But, I do like to think that I’m getting out there and experiencing life today versus listing the things I want to do before I die.  Semantics really.  But, isn’t it interesting how a common expression that is so widely used seems so unnatural to one person?  Could I be the only person that doesn’t like the expression “It’s on my bucket list”?

Nearly everyone in my life from my mom to great friends, they all say, “Oh, that’s on my Bucket List”.  I doubt that will change.  And, that’s ok.

At the end of the day,  it’s about getting out there and experiencing life and the amazing world in which we live!

It’s about the pure joy you feel when you see dolphin swimming alongside your boat.  The adrenaline rush from zip lining over the treetops. That overwhelming sense of peace when you see something truly beautiful. I feel that peace every time I see the sun setting over the beautiful ocean.

Whatever you call it, make a list.  If you want to call it your Travel Bucket List..go ahead!  I won’t mind.  😉

Live each day because no one knows how many we will be given.  Don’t wait for the elusive “better time” to explore and travel.  Why are we waiting for retirement, or for things to slow down?

My List! (My Travel Bucket List is Always Growing)

  • Visit all 7 Continents
  • Mediterranean Cruise – Ideally a back to back so we can see even more (with only one long flight). You can read about my cruise obsession here.
  • Cruise the Panama Canal – It’s a wonder of the world, I need to check it out.
  • Sing Mama Mia in the Greek Islands with my daughter-  😉
  • Stand on the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland – I read a book series that took place in County Claire and now I have to see it in person.
  • Road trip the entire Pacific Coast Highway – I have experienced several sections, but to start in the Pacific Northwest and head south seems like a magical journey.
  • Eat noodles in Thailand

Oh…and Hawaii, Australia, New Zeland.  I could go on and on.  Check out my Top Travel Moments of 2017.

  1. Your Travel Bucket list is awesome…and my favorite item is to sing Mama Mia with your daughter in Greece! That’s awesome! Have you seen the newest movie????? Really cute!

    1. Thanks so sweet, Mary. Meghan and I actually saw it together the weekend it came out. We loved it. I ugly cried when Donna was in labor and during the baptism. I never thought I would sob in Mama Mia.

  2. Working our way through, one trip at a time. We’ve been blessed with some extraordinary opportunities, and the will to do it. We crossed off the 7th continent with an amazing holiday cruise to SoAmerica and Antarctica a couple of years ago. Cruises give a lot of ‘just go’ bang for the buck. Japan, Germany and New Zealand are on our short list, and while we’ve been on the spectacular Cliffs of Moher, we want to go back to the north of Ireland to see the Giants’ Causeway. Lots of places in the USA await our exploration, too. Travel has been my splurge and the experiences are well worth every dollar.

    1. All 7…that is amazing! Good for you. Thank you so much for sharing and please keep me posted on your adventures.

  3. I definitely have a travel bucket list! My family always jokes with me that I want to go “everywhere”, because the list is so big. Some of my top picks for the next few years include Paris, London, Ireland, Scotland, and Bali 🙂

  4. This definitely inspires me to make my own bucket list. Thanks Jillian!! You have an interesting list of places. My next go-to place would have to be Europe. It is an absolute must for me (:

  5. These are all great bucket list additions. I especially want to stand on the Cliffs of Moher just like you. I went to Ireland last year, but didn’t make it out of Dublin to the rest of the gorgeous country.

  6. We are a homeschool family and my travel bucket list includes taking my kids to all 50 states by the time they graduate high school. My oldest is starting 4th grade and has only been to two states. I’ve got 9 years to visit 48 states. I better get started!

    1. I really admire you! That is a great goal and will be an amazing learning experience and a gift to your children. Thank you so much for sharing.

  7. I have a travel bucket list. We just don’t have the time or money to do them all just yet! Plus a year old keeps us pretty buys as it is, lol!

  8. I love “sing Mama Mia in the Greek Islands with my daughter” haha! I kind of have a bucket list of places, but I feel like with Pinterest, I’m always finding more and more places to go!
